Global Food Security Strategy (GFSS) Mozambique Country Plan

Mozambique is a country with enormous agriculture development and commodity export potential. It has relatively fertile soils, extensive riverine networks, a low population density, and a lengthy coastline with deep water ports and proximity to markets. Mozambique also stands at the threshold of a natural gas-fueled economic boom. Following the discovery of more than 150 trillion cubic feet of offshore natural gas, Mozambique hopes to become a major gas exporter within the next ten years. Yet Mozambique continues to lag behind due to, among other factors, high levels of poverty and malnutrition, recurrent climatic events, and an ongoing insurrection in Cabo Delgado in the north of the country that has displaced more than one million people.
