You are invited to join USAID’s Bureau for Food Security for a facilitated discussion on research priorities in sustainable intensification. This e-forum will bring together agricultural research and development professionals to examine the capacity of U.S. Title XII universities in sustainable intensification research, with a view towards long-term sustainability of crop, livestock, and aquaculture production in the key production systems in Feed the Future focus countries.

This day-long event will focus on a key priority in the U.S. Government’s international development and investment strategy: the integration of agriculture and nutrition strategies and activities. Key concepts and outcomes from the three Regional AgN-GLEE workshops conducted in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean will also be shared. Interested organizations are welcome to select no more than two employees to participate in person. Register on no later than June 11.

On June 12, USAID will hold a public meeting of the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA). Chaired by Jack Leslie, who is also chairman of Weber Shandwick, ACVFA is made up of 22 private citizens who represent the diverse views of USAID's key stakeholders -- private and voluntary organizations, cooperatives, foundations, private firms, professional societies, and universities. This meeting will focus on the U.S.

On Wednesday, May 29, two new Leaping and Learning reports will be launched. First, “Leaping and Learning: Linking Smallholders to Markets in Africa” written in conjunction with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), is a comprehensive review of the existing literature on smallholder-centred market-based interventions.

This seminar will emphasize the tremendous importance of horticulture to the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future initiative with an in-depth focus on gender, nutrition, and income generation. The seminar leaders will also discuss how to better link horticultural projects focused on research with those focused on implementation.
