This evening, almost one billion people in the world will go to bed hungry. That should keep us all up at night.
Speaking at the International Food Policy Research Institute, Secretary Clinton described the hunger crisis as a “complex problem of infrastructure, governance, markets, and education. These are things we can shape and strengthen. We have the tools. We have the resources.” And we have the technologies.
Through Feed the Future, the United States is working with countries to develop more resilient agricultural sectors so they can feed themselves over the long-term. As part of this effort, we recognize the importance of providing critical humanitarian assistance to save lives and protect livelihoods. Technology and innovation, including GIS, are critical tools in this work.
